Background
Media and Information Literacy (MIL), gives people the skills to think critically about the content of the information they receive and share, the sources of the information they use, and the role of communication in respecting human rights and sustainable development. MIL encompasses a living set of human competencies. Over the past decade in particular, its scope, urgency, and application have increased. By providing a rich variety of capacity-building resources, such as curricula, guidelines, and assessment frameworks, UNESCO supports the development of MIL competencies.
Objectives
UNESCO’s Office for the Maghreb aims to support accredited educational institutions based in the Maghreb region (or in collaboration with institutions outside the region) to achieve the following:
A grant is available to these institutions to support course development on a case-by-case basis. The grant varies between USD5,000 to USD10,000, depending on the number of applications received.
Criteria of eligibility
Geographical area covered: countries of the Maghreb region, namely Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia.
Only institutions registered as legal entities in their own countries and with up-to-date documentation will be able to submit applications to this Call. They must also meet the following criteria:

Timeline
The project must be implemented within 12 months after the signing of the official agreement.

Copyright
UNESCO operates under an open access policy using Creative Commons IGO 3.0 licenses to share its content. Works funded and produced by UNESCO must be able to be freely used and distributed. The Contractor shall grant UNESCO worldwide copyright in the Work, which shall have the right, during the term of copyright, to translate, adapt, reproduce, perform, broadcast, communicate to the public, print, and publish in any language and in any form, all or any part of the Work, and to authorize others to exercise all or any of its rights hereunder.
Assurance of quality
UNESCO shall have the right, at its own expense, to have the Contractor’s books and records relating to the project bank account and Form AM 10-10 reviewed.
UNESCO may conduct or arrange for a periodic evaluation of the Contractor’s implementation of the Project. For this purpose, the Contractor shall, at UNESCO’s request, allow representatives or delegates of UNESCO to visit the project site(s) and facilities, inspect the property and examine the books and records relating to the project funded by UNESCO.
