For international students, the place to study has long been the United States, the best teachers, the best labs and innovation that few countries could match.

But American colleges and universities have started to stumble when it comes to attracting top talent.

The focus is on China because it sends the most students to the US. But those numbers are in fact slipping and many graduates now get their diplomas, then quickly head back home to better understand what’s going on.

Yang Ye Ma, who teaches sociology at Syracuse University and has written extensively about Chinese students experiences in the US, and Tire Huang, a senior at the University of California San Diego, studying philosophy and economics, discuss the challenges with The World’s Marco Werman.
